R. V. Faller «Assessment of Oral Health: Diagnostic Techniques and Validation Criteria»
S. Karger Publishers (USA) | ISBN 3805570309 | 2000-07 | PDF | 318 Mb | 195 Pages
This book is a compilation of new and innovative techniques for the assessment and characterization of orally important conditions such as caries periodontal diseases and calculus. It also gives recommendations for the validation of new methods.
There are discussions on optical fluorescence and direct digital radiography for the detection and quantification of caries as well as optical coherence tomography and its application in the imaging of internal tissue microstructure. Furthermore recent advances in the evaluation of dental calculus and the quantification of plaque and periodontal bone and attachment loss are elucidated. Moreover an outline is given for the evaluation of three-dimensional structures using methods of coordinate metrology and the use of biological markers in the assessment of gingival inflammation is considered. The final chapter discusses the validation criteria that need to be applied to any diagnostic method before it can be generally accepted.
In this publication dental researchers and dental students will find a detailed summary of approaches to as well as validation criteria for new diagnostic techniques in dentistry.

William J. Moss «Child Health in Complex Emergencies»
National Academies Press | ISBN 0309100631 | 2007 (Not Published Yet) | PDF | 070 Pages | 103 Mb

From Inside the Book:
Child Health in Complex Emergencies OVERVIEW Addressing the health needs of children in complex emergencies is critical to the success of relief efforts and requires coordinated and effective interventions. It also describes surveys of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and international agencies providing care to children in complex emergencies which were conducted to identify guidelines commonly used to provide such care and assesses the :-) :-):-):-):-):-):-) and limitations of these guidelines. The guidelines should target as much as possible the different levels of health care workers providing care to children to ensure appropriate effective and uniform care in a variety of situations. An external study commissioned by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the UN Secretariat found that a lack of clear terms of reference guidance on responsibilities reporting requirements and consultation lines led to recurring problems in the provision of care during complex emergencies (Reindorp and Wiles 2003). Binding principles of engagement standardized indicators as part of a minimum essential data set and health-sector area-activity summaries are strategies to strengthen coordination and standardization of practice among different agencies in a complex emergency (Bradt and Drummond 2003). Postemergency Phase Many of the major causes of child morbidity and mortality in the acute phase of an emergency persist into the postemergency phase.

Wilhelm Schäberle «Ultrasonography in Vascular Diagnos A Therapy-Oriented Textbook and Atlas»
Springer | ISBN 3540232206 | 2005 Year | PDF | 25 Mb | 356 Pages

Book Description
This comprehensive and up-to-date presentation of vascular ultrasound provides a detailed account of this diagnostic modality and the exciting expansion it has seen in recent years. The emphasis is on the clinical aspects that are relevant from the angiologist’s and vascular surgeon’s point of view. The main chapters are subdivided into a text section and an atlas section. The text part of each chapter gives an account of the respective vascular territory in terms of its sonoanatomy the examination procedure and normal findings the indications for diagnostic ultrasound and the clinical impact of the ultrasound findings. The atlas constituting the second part of each chapter presents a compilation of pertinent case material to illustrate the typical ultrasound findings not only of the more common vascular diseases but also of rare conditions that are nevertheless significant for the vascular surgeon and angiologist. The ultrasound material is compared with the angiographic and intraoperative findings. This book is a benefit for beginners as well as for experienced sonographers.
