The elderly tend to suffer disproportionately from many chronic disorders, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, dementia, incontinence, and musculoskeletal problems. Cross-national comparisons offer insights into the epidemiology and etiology of many conditions as well as into the differences in care patterns.
