DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION
Posted by admin on November 25th, 2009While new technology is enhancing the accuracy ol’cardiologic diag¬nosis, clinicians may be relying on it excessively. For example, an eval¬uation for coronary artery disease could include any of the following tests: chest x-ray, standard exercise ECG. ambulatory FX’G monitor¬ing, an invasive electrophysiologic study, exercise thallium scin-
tigrapliy, M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiography, radionu¬clide ventriculography at rest and during exercise, CT scan, and car¬diac catheterization. Many of the commonly used tests for diagnosing coronary artery disease are compared in TABLE 34—1. To determine which tests are necessary, clinicians need to consider ihe patient’s his¬tory and physical examination findings.
